Tucked away on the edge of Motorcity lies a hidden gem. The Jenny Rose salon with its all white interior with accents of black, purple and chrome manages to be both warm and welcoming, and slick and modern. Walking through the door I felt instantly at ease. Baby, my knowledgable and passionate therapist from Nepal, took her time to find out the needs of my skin and my current routine. To relieve my dehydrated and tired skin, it was decided an Elemis Collegan Boost facial would be the perfect solution.

With gentle music filling the room I soon made myself comfortable under a warm blanket and as the lights were dimmed a twinkling starlit ceiling was revealed. A thick cleanser was applied first and not only could I feel my skin drinking in the moisture but the smell was divine, with hints of vanilla and lavender. The benefits of the facial include immediate rehydration and wrinkle reduction.

My face was then massaged with the skin bliss lavender capsule, followed by a soothing neck, shoulder and hand massage, encouraging relaxation. Feeling the weight of my many to-do lists wash away with every stroke of the Japanese Camellia oil, the rose exfoliator was applied, before the face steamer, then the first of two facials: a peel pro collagen mask with a silk eye press with serum. While the face mask was working its magic, Baby gave my scalp a massage. The quartz lift anti-ageing mask was then  applied, then the Elemis Marine cream, serum and eye cream.

Ninety minutes of bliss was complimented by a pot of fresh ginger tea and some light snacks while baby talked me through my treatment. The results were immediate. The dehydration lines on my forehead had disappeared, as promised, and my cheeks looked fuller and more youthful.

After the facial I was led into a large white room, a chandelier dominating the centre and, hanging from one wall, a series of hairdryers. Ida, my stylist from South Africa, explained the benefits of the Oloplex treatment, describing how it would help to repair damaged hair as well as making it feel softer and shinier.

The first product was applied and left on for 15 minutes, then Oloplex two was added and left for a further 30 minutes. During this time I enjoyed a sleep-inducing head massage. My hair was then washed with Schwarzkopf moisture-kick shampoo and conditioner and given a subtle but bouncy curled blow dry. Ida is very knowledgeable and was able to offer both style and product advice. The results were smooth, shiny, healthy-looking hair.

Before and after, Oloplex treatment

Jenny Rose is an ideal salon for both hair and spa treatments, and what makes it extra special is that it is baby and child friendly. With easy parking outside, no steps for buggies, and lots of space for little ones. They have iPads on hand to offer entertainment, comfortable sofas for a snooze, the opportunity to play 'hairdressers' or  have your nails painted - and if all else fails they have a lollipop jar!

The salon is well ventilated so no nasty fumes and Sunday to Tuesday are their quieter days.
